The Inspiring Story of Saint Anthony of Padua

Saint Anthony of Padua was born in 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal, and was originally named Fernando Martins. Raised in a noble family, he chose a life dedicated to God at a young age, entering the Augustinian order. However, his life took a profound turn when he encountered the remains of five Franciscan martyrs who had died preaching in Morocco.

Deeply moved by their sacrifice, he joined the Franciscan Order and took the name Anthony. His desire was to preach to those who had never heard the Gospel, but illness brought him back to Europe. What seemed like a setback became divine redirection.

Anthony’s gift for preaching was discovered unexpectedly when he was asked to speak at an ordination. His profound knowledge of Scripture and powerful delivery astonished everyone present. From that moment, he became one of the Church’s most beloved preachers.

He traveled across Italy and France, drawing large crowds and converting many hearts. Known for his humility, wisdom, and miracles, he was especially devoted to the poor and forgotten.

After his death in 1231 at just 36 years old, he was canonized less than a year later—one of the fastest canonizations in Church history. Today, he is honored as a Doctor of the Church and one of the most Powerful Saints worldwide.

St. Anthony is most widely known as the patron saint of lost items—but his intercession goes far beyond that. People pray to him for:

  • Lost or stolen items

  • Lost faith or spiritual direction

  • Relationship struggles

  • Family peace

  • Financial difficulties

  • Guidance in major life decisions

  • Healing and miracles

His famous prayer, “St. Anthony, please come around, something is lost and must be found,” reflects his reputation for helping recover what is missing—not only materially, but spiritually.

👉 (Pause here and clearly mention your intention)
Example: finding a lost item, healing, guidance, relationship, financial help, etc.

O blessed St. Anthony,
you who helped countless souls recover what was lost,
help me now in my moment of need.

If what I seek is truly for my good,
and in accordance with God’s holy will,
guide it back to me and restore peace to my heart.

If not, grant me something greater—
the grace to accept, to trust, and to move forward with faith.

Strengthen my spirit in times of uncertainty,
bring clarity where there is confusion,
and hope where there is discouragement.

Teach me to seek not only what is lost in this world,
but also what is eternal—
a deeper faith, a closer walk with God,
and a heart at peace.

O kind and loving St. Anthony,
do not let me be left unaided.

Intercede for me before the Lord,
and obtain for me the grace I humbly ask.

I place my trust in God’s timing and mercy,
knowing that every prayer is heard.

Amen.

🙏 The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;

Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
